About Me
I am a solution-focused, collaborative therapist and I am highly motivated to help you achieve your goals as quickly as possible. If you are interested in approaching therapy from a faith-based perspective I am happy to include that in our work as well. I have completed the professional trainings for EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy and am going beyond to pursue full certification in EMDR.
I love people and I appreciate opportunities to connect and help. From personal experience, I know that life and emotions can be overwhelming at times and people need a safe, neutral person to sort things out with and promote progress and direction. I started out as a music major in college, but felt drawn to helping people by listening and encouraging them in some of their most difficult times. I switched my major and worked in crisis intervention after my bachelor’s degree, but when I had children I returned to teaching piano, which was also a great joy. I moved in to homeschooling then for about 6 years, and then made my way to a wonderful Marriage and Family Therapy master program.
One reason I provide marriage counseling is because I have seen it work! My own marriage and blended family has seen immense healing and growth through counseling, beyond what I expected. When two people really want their relationship to improve, it may be slow sometimes to get to where they want it to be, but with dedication and help they can become stronger and closer than they ever dreamed!
In providing individual and couple counseling, I have seen people discover strength and meaning and healing they have been needing and wanting and progress toward their goals in ways they never imagined. It is inspiring and humbling.
I also am a licensed addictions counselor. Through personal experience and training, I have developed skills to support others on their journey out of the prison of addiction and alcoholism into freedom and a fuller life. This work also impacts relationships with others in a powerful way.
